Ms. Stevens started the day reading the absolutely beautiful story "If You Plant a Seed."

" If you plant a seed of selfishness - in very short time - it will grow and grow and grow into a heap of trouble. But if you plant a seed of kindness - in almost no time at all - the fruits of kindness will grow and grow and grow and they are very sweet."

Thankful Thursday

"I am thankful for people sharing."

In preparation for Remembrance Day tomorrow we read The Peace Book.

What does peace look like?

What does peace feel like?

What does peace sound like?

So many bucket filling actions! Will we fill our class bucket?

Wednesday, 9 November 2022

In continuing our work on identifying our feelings, we started the day with an emoji check in.

This is how we were feeling this morning.

Our letter of the week is Rr

We played a fun game to practice our Rr words and our sight words.

Is this word an Rr word? Or an other word

We know lots of words!

We continue to be bucket fillers! Some wonderful helping, sharing and caring in our classroom. Can we fill it by Friday?

Tuesday, 8 November 2022

We are so glad to be back in the classroom with everyone!

*** Please look for school picture proofs in backpacks***

Ms. Stevens started the day reading How Full is your Bucket?

We thought of ways we can fill each other's bucket.

"We can be kind"

"We can share"

"We can include others."

We are working on filling this bucket together. A pom pom for each bucket filling action. Can we fill it by Friday? We have a good start!

Ms. Stevens also read When We are Kind.

We are thinking of ways we can be kind.

This morning Ms. Stevens read The Colour Monster.

We learned to recognize the feelings we have inside us.

Ms. Stevens read Fiona The Fruit Bat and we had a bat true or false game.

True or False?
- Bats eat spaghetti.
- Baby bats can't fly.
- Bats can hang upside down for a very long time.

 Dear Families,

As you are aware, the YRDSB has recently announced that schools will be closed to students on Friday, November 4 due to the CUPE Protest.
The Kindergarten Team has put together a list of play based activities you can do with your child to continue the learning at home. Please be aware that these activities are in no way mandatory and are completely optional.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,
The Aurora Heights Kindergarten Team

Learning Through Play at Home

1.    Count objects as you play with your children. For example, “How many blocks did you use to make the tower?” Explicitly teach your children how to point to each object as they count.  Students who are comfortable with counting sets can move onto simple mental math. Such as asking, “How many red cars do you have? How many yellow cars do you have? How many cars does that make altogether?”

2.    Ask your children to help write a grocery list. Can they hear and record the first letter in each word? Year Two students are beginning to “stretch out” each word to record all the sounds they hear.

3.    As you read to your children, ask them to identify how the characters in the story may be feeling. Ask them to explain their thinking.

4.    At meals, discuss healthy foods and sometimes foods. Encourage your children to assist with making their lunch. Can they choose a healthy snack independently?

5. Go for a nature walk. What do you see, hear, smell? What can you touch and how does it feel?

We are measuring with "non-standard" units.

This bat wingspan is 15 blocks long, 12 bread tags long, and 10 paperclips long.

Wondering Wednesday: Do you think bats are creepy? or cute?

We each got to place our bat to state our opinion.

General consensus - Cute!

Ms. Stevens read I Am Bat.

Who was stealing Bat's cherries???

***Year one families - please find a letter in backpacks to sign up for a family observation date.

Bat week - Day 2!

We learned some interesting facts about bats. Can you tell you family at home what you learned about bats?

Ms. Stevens compiled some of our learning.

Our bats were flying from their roosts into a ten frame!
