 Dear Families,

As you are aware, the YRDSB has recently announced that schools will be closed to students on Friday, November 4 due to the CUPE Protest.
The Kindergarten Team has put together a list of play based activities you can do with your child to continue the learning at home. Please be aware that these activities are in no way mandatory and are completely optional.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,
The Aurora Heights Kindergarten Team

Learning Through Play at Home

1.    Count objects as you play with your children. For example, “How many blocks did you use to make the tower?” Explicitly teach your children how to point to each object as they count.  Students who are comfortable with counting sets can move onto simple mental math. Such as asking, “How many red cars do you have? How many yellow cars do you have? How many cars does that make altogether?”

2.    Ask your children to help write a grocery list. Can they hear and record the first letter in each word? Year Two students are beginning to “stretch out” each word to record all the sounds they hear.

3.    As you read to your children, ask them to identify how the characters in the story may be feeling. Ask them to explain their thinking.

4.    At meals, discuss healthy foods and sometimes foods. Encourage your children to assist with making their lunch. Can they choose a healthy snack independently?

5. Go for a nature walk. What do you see, hear, smell? What can you touch and how does it feel?
