 Welcome to Bat week!

Ms. Stevens has planned many wonderful activities to help us learn about bats.

She read The Secret Life of the Little Brown Bat. Can you tell your family at home what you learned about bats?

All week we will be learning about the "at" word family.  How many "at" words can you think of?

We are making bat houses.

"The bat flies around and then it comes back and lands here on top."

One more pumpkin activity from last week.
We measured the height of pumpkins.
With each pumpkin we measured, our estimates got closer and closer!

Friday 28 October 2022

What a wonderful Fun Friday to wrap up Pumpkin week!

*** Please look in backpacks for a bundle of work from September and October***

Mrs. Stevens opened a pumpkin and we explored the pulp and seeds.

We enjoyed the beautiful weather with some outdoor play.

We have been learning the song Five Little Pumpkins. There is a new sight word inside: "said"

We created our own artistic interpretations of the Five Little Pumpkins song.

Finally, Ms. Stevens worked with some people to finish our entry for the Aurora Heights Literary Character Pumpkin Contest!

Isn't our Rainbow Fish amazing?

Thursday 27 October 2022

Aurora Heights is having a pumpkin decorating contest. Our entry needs to be a literary character.

We used dotmocracy to make our choices.

Piggy from Elephant and Piggy?

Clifford?

Rainbow Fish?

Pete the Cat?

Looks like Rainbow Fish won!

We'll post pictures of the pumpkin once we finish tomorrow.

Thankful Thursday

"I am thankful for Rainbow Fish"
"I am thankful for my teachers."

🤗

 Yesterday we were scientists!

Will the pumpkin sink or float?

First we made predictions.

Then we did the experiment.

It floats!

Then we recorded our observations.

Tuesday 25 October 2022

We continued Pp and Pumpkin Week with a game of Pass the Pumpkin.
We are beading pumpkins.

We are making pumpkins with faces.

How many of each shape?

Monday 24 October 2022

 Welcome to Pumpkin Week!

Mrs. Stevens has planned many wonderful pumpkin activities!

We read Seed Sprout, Pumpkin Pie. In this book we learned about the lifecycle of the pumpkin.

We applied our leaning about the life cycle.

For outdoor learning, we visited Rainbow Dash.

We noticed Rainbow Dash's leaves have turned orange!

We also created patterns with things we found outside.

"Pinecone-Leaf-Pinecone-Leaf. It's an AB Pattern"

"I did a Red-Yellow-Red-Yellow AB pattern."

Which is 'A'
"Red"

...and B?
"Yellow"

We collected leaves from Rainbow Dash to create our own version of Rainbow Dash inside.
For Mindful Monday, Ms. Stevens read My Mouth is a Volcano!

When Louis gets an idea he has trouble keeping his thoughts inside - he just blurts it out!

Thursday 20 October 2022

Our first library book exchange today!

We each chose a book to read at home. Our Library day is day 5 which will be on Fridays for the next few weeks. Please see the note I placed in the bookbag.

In honour of Tt week, we had a Tea Shop set up in the class all week. So fun!

We made a daily menu.
We made a sign to attract customers.

We had fun taking turns serving and dining.

Wednesday 19 October 2022

 Picture day is coming up!

October 26th is Picture Day at Aurora Heights.

Our poem of the week brings us two new sight words; on and the.

Look for these words as you read together at home.
Ms. Stevens read Pete the Cat Falling for Autumn. Pete packs A LOT in his backpack.
We worked together to recall all Pete put in his backpack and in the right sequence from the story.

A little too wet and rainy to head outside for outdoor learning. We brought the outside in and worked on patterns with pinecones, maple keys (aka helicopters) and pine needles.

We learned about AB and ABC patterns.

Tuesday 18 October 2022

Ms. Stevens started the day with some wonderful leaf activities.

We sorted the leaves - by colour.
We talked about which colour we had the most of and which we had the least of.
Then we made our own graphs based on the model we made together on the board.

Our letter of the week this week is "Tt"

We played Toss The Triangle.

What can you find at home that starts with the letter Tt?

Monday 17 October 2022

What a great start to leaf week - part 2!

We read Leaf Man.

Throughout the week we will be making our own leaf creations.

Ms. Stevens read Leif and the Fall
We recalled all the ways the Leif tried to avoid his big fall. We voted on which one was most likely to work.
We started our leaf reports using the leaves we collected last week on our leaf walk.
