We have been playing the "Snowman" game. (some of you may know it as Hangman)

This is a fun game you can play at home!

We are finding all of the /s/ words in this picture.

How many /s/ words can you find with your child?

Today we started some learning around mapping. This type of mapping is a good early coding skill.

We used the storyline of The Three Little Pigs and used directional arrows to create the map of the story

We read another version of The Three Little Pigs.

This one has a different ending! The wolf decided he didn't like playing out the traditional ending of the story and suggested they all become friends!
We are using play-doh for fine motor skills and  to practice letter formation.

 Tuneful Tuesday!

We have been working on the word concept of rhyme for the last little while now. One of the songs we use to support this is "Down by the Bay."

Perhaps you can sing this song at home too and practice rhyming!

Three Little Pigs Week Continues!
Today we read The True Story of the Three Little Pigs as told by A. Wolf.

According to this story - we got it all wrong yesterday! The wolf just needed a cup of sugar and had a bad case of the sneezes! He's not the bad guy everyone makes him out to be!

We started learning about hearing all sides of the story before we know what really happened.

We are thinking about what we would make a house out of if we could.

"I would make my house out of flowers and hearts."

We are drawing snowmen for /s/ week

Monday, 8 January 2024

Welcome back! I trust everyone had a chance to rest and rejuvenate over the break.

Our sound of the week is /s/

In honour of our sound of the week for Mindful Monday we learned how to do a snowball breath.

We are starting a new learning inquiry based on fairy tales. We will be learning about what a fairy tale is and we will also use fairy tales to learn that there are many sides or perspectives to a story. This is true in stories and in real life. It is good to consider all sides or perspectives and learn that different people see things in different ways and that is ok. Each week we will learn through a different tale.

This week we start with the Three Little Pigs.

We read the traditional story of the Three Little Pigs. Through the week we will read different versions of the classic story.

Perhaps ask your child what materials the pigs made houses from and was that a wise choice?

Also - who is the "bad guy" in this story?

Friday, 22 December 2023

Well it has been a VERY busy couple of days and I have not had a chance to post but I would like to wish everyone a safe, restful and WONDERFUL break! Happy New Year and I'll see you on January 8th!

The third day of our five days of kindness!

Today we had a kindness concert for our caretakers and office staff.

First we did a dress rehearsal.

Here is our audience. They were so impressed they were speechless...

Then it was time for the big show!

We sang:
Mr. Sun
The Kindness Song
Aiken Drum
They loved it!
Everyone said how we made their day!

How did we feel after?

"Excited!"

"Happy! I remembered that being kind to someone else makes me feel happy too!"

Tuesday, 19 December 2023

For our second day of kindness, we created cards to brighten people's day.

We took our time, and did our best colouring.

Inside we added messages like;

"You are kind."

"I love you."

"Kindness rules!"

Then, we were kindness ninjas! We were sneaky and secretly left our cards for staff to find at a later time.

Later in the staff room I heard teachers saying;

"Oh how cute! Someone left a card for me. So nice!"

I forgot to post a picture of our completed Kindness Quilt.

It is in the hall outside our classroom.

I'm so happy with how it turned out!
